Community Event: Art in the Plaza
June 28, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
FreeIMAGINE! Public Art in the Plaza, a community arts project to re-claim public art space as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, is in the works. We are seeking actors who want to play in some highlights from the best of Shakespeare, and are available for a gentle rehearsal schedule in July and August. No previous Shakespeare acting experience is necessary – only a desire to explore and time to play together!
First meeting: Mon, June 28 – 6:00 pm – ARTS Council office, 79 W. Market Street, Corning, NY.
IMAGINE! Public Art in the Plaza will take place Fri-Sun, September 3, 4, 5 – Civic Plaza (Corning, NY). Our short performance will be on one of the days of this joyful festival of regional arts. Casting will be done when the ensemble is assembled, and the rehearsal schedule will attempt to be as flexible as possible, beginning on July 19. We will be exploring these well-loved texts of Shakespeare in innovative ways, utilizing broadly envisioned casting, and fun storytelling techniques to bring Shakespeare as you may never have imagined him to our community.
